Estelle Curwen:

Mercurio presents with pleasure the fine art jewellery of Estelle Curwen.

Estelle Curwen is highly skilled in the rare and ancient but resurgent art of enamelling. Powdered glass in a potentially vast palette of colours is fused to precious metal, creating a glossy, richly hued surface. This technique was used by Greek, Roman, Celtic and Byzantine artisans in the West, and developed with great refinement in Chinese and Japanese cloisonne work. For centuries, enamelled objects have been used for adornment, religious, and regal purposes. Enamel jewellery achieved new heights of sophistication in the Art Nouveau period, and the 20th century saw an explosion of imaginative new applications and designs.

Estelle creates glowing and beautifully shaped one-of-a-kind pieces which offer a fresh take on the classic examples of this art.

She has studied her craft in BC, Oregon, and California, and has been at the bench for 30+ years, creating jewellery using both traditional and avant garde techniques.
